The One Hundred Homes Project is based on a government household consumption study. It uses pictures, videos, images, and family descriptions to provide a visual representation of income distribution across India, and show the real people and lives behind these numbers.
Shot by a PBS film crew, the project includes video essays of one hundred families in twenty villages and urban neighborhoods across India that are representative of income distribution. It may be one of the first projects to combine the survey sampling methods used to measure and evaluate poverty with the information-rich format enabled by virtual reality, to provide a nuanced view of what it means to live at different levels of income in vastly different circumstances.
Join the project's Principal Investigator, Dr. Jeffrey Hammer, along with director Evan Wexler and journalist Govindraj Ethiraj in their discussion of the research and methods used to conduct the project, and the insights gained from it.
